The First National Report on the Implementation of the Convention on Biological Diversity has been prepared in compliance with Article 26 according to which each Party shall periodically submit to the Conference of the Parties of the Convention, reports on the measures taken for the implementation of the provisions of the Convention and on their efficiency for attaining the Convention's objectives.
The First National Report is focused, as pointed in Decision 11/17 of the Conference of the Parties, on the results of implementation of Article 6 which commits the Parties to develop national strategies, plans and programmes for the conservation and sustainable use of biological diversity, as well as to integrate, as far as possible and appropriate, measures for conservation and sustainable use of biological diversity into relevant sectoral or cross-sectoral plans, programmes and policies.
The First National Report has been developed within the framework of the Project of the United Nations Environment Programme and of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection of the Republic of Belarus in co-operation with the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Belarus. First of all, it is based on the materials of The National Strategy and Action Plan for the Conservation and Sustainable Use of Biological Diversity in the Republic of Belarus and the Analytical Review called The Status and Use of Biological Diversity in the Republic of Belarus.
