Changing thermal properties of polypyromellitimide during its chemical modification. pp. 32--35

Summary: The influence of modifiers on thermal properties of polypyromellitimide, such as initial temperature of intensive thermal oxidative destruction, temperature and completion degree of imidization of polyamidoacid composition, temperature of spatial network structure formation in specimens, temperature of residual solvent and moisture extraction from the film specimen, has been studied. The dependence of the activation energy of thermal oxidative destruction of the composition on nature and quantity of modifier has been investigated. The obtained data give us a clear understanding of the mechanism of the influence of modifying additives on composition properties and to a certain degree help to predict the main characteristics of new polymer materials, reducing material and time expenses of their development.

Peculiarities of molecules packing of derivatives of high fatty acids in Langmuir films. pp. 42--45

Summary: Langmuir--Blodgett (LB) monolayers of behenic acid and purified beeswax were prepared on graphite and on mica surfaces by the horizontal precipitation method. The adsorbates were studied by atomic force microscopy and the molecular structures of monolayer films were attained. The lattice parameters of molecules packing in a monolayer film of behenic acid on mica surface and in a monolayer of beeswax on graphite surface were determined. It was established that the nature of mica surface render an influence on hydrocarbon tails packing as opposed to packing of derivatives of fatty acids on graphite surface.

Simulation of biologically active conformation for the immunodominant epitope of HIVThailand Protein GR 120. pp. 61--66

Summary: The geometry refinement for the five preferred structures of immunodominant epitope of ĶIVsub protein gp120, derived earlier from the NMR spectroscopy data, is carried out using the quantum chemistry methods. As a result, (i) the energy characteristics of initial structures were improved significantly, (ii) their relative locations on the scale of formation heats were determined, and (iii) the energy barriers dividing the conformers under study were computed. On this basis, only two out of five starting structures are proposed as the biologically relevant conformations for the virus immunogenic crown. The results obtained are discussed in connection with the literature data on the structure of the HIV--1 principal neutralizing determinant.

Influence of hydroxyl radicals acceptors on urease inactivation by low-frequency ultrasound. pp. 72--77

Summary: The effect of the radical HO. acceptors -- mannitol, dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO), dimethylformamide (DMF), ethanol, butanol, and octanol on the soya-bean urease inactivation has been studied in aqueous solutions at 46°C and under action of low-frequency ultrasound (US, 27 kHz, 60 W/cm2). DMSO, butanol and ethanol stopped completely the US-inactivation of urease in aqueous solution, whereas mannitol, DMF and octanol inhibited that at 46°C and under US-treatment of solution. The most effective protector of urease was ethanol, that eliminated the US-inactivation of urease and supported its thermoinactivation on a low permanent level. The data obtained prove the important role of active radicals in the urease US-inactivation (27 kHz, 60 W/cm2) at 46°C.
