Influence of Ni2+, Cd2+ and Co2+ cations on 5-aminolevulinic acid accumulation and 5-aminolevulinic dehydratase activity in cells of Euglena gracilis. pp. 40--43
Summary: Influence of Ni+2, Cd+2 and Co+2 (10-5 -- 10-2 M) cations on chlorophyll (Chl) accumulation, biosynthesis of 5-aminolevulinic acid (ALA) and ALA dehydratase activity (ALAD) in cells of Euglena gracilis have been investigated. After 7 days incubation with 10-5 M solutions of chlorides of these metals considerable variations in the Chl formation process were not observed. The increasing of the Ni+2 and Cd+2 concentrations up to 10-4 M caused the increase amounts Chl and ALA in cells of algae compared to the control. Strong stimulation of ALA biosynthesis was found and simultaneously decrease of Chl content and ALAD activity in algae cells, which were incubated with 10-3 M solutions of the Ni+2 and Cd+2 cations. In variant with Co+2 (10-4 -- 10-3 M) decrease of accumulation Chl, ALA and ALAD activity was observed.

Effect of artificial heteroprostanoids contained nitrogen and sulphur in a- and w-chains on intestine motorial function and ulcer inducement of female rats. pp. 63--66.
Summary: It was found out that in damaging the stomach mucosa of inbred C3H mice induced by indomethacin (injected subcutaneously at a dose of 60 mg/kg) and ethanol (0.1 ml of 60% ethanol solution per os) 13-aza-10-oxa-9-oxoprostanoid (2) with interphenilenic fragment in a-chain, injected per os at a saturating dose of 2.5 mkg/kg, decreased the stomach ulceration index by 33% and did not influence on outbred ICR mice the small intestine motorial function. 13-Aza-ll-oxa-9-oxoprostanoid (5), injected at an equivalent dose increases the stomach mucosa damage and stimulates the intestine perestalsis in mice. Other heteroprostanoids were not effective on the above model of experimental ulcer inducement, while three of the studied compounds formely had showed gastroprolective effects on the model of ethanol-induced stomach ulcers in Wistar rats. The results of investigation suggests that the model that uses one of nonsteroid antiinflammatory drugs is quite adequate for studying the compounds which are characterised by PG-like actions on the ulcers of gastroduodenal region.

Influence of alcohol intoxication and aldehyde dehydrogenase inhibitors with cyanamid on acetaldehyde distribution in blood of white rats. pp. 67--69
Summary: During alcohol intoxication the highest acetaldehyde (Ach) levels were detected in the Hepatic Vena and the lowerst ones -- in the Inferior Vena Cava. The Ach concentration in Aorta was significantly higher than in Inferior Vena Cava. The red blood cells Ach concentrations were higher then blood plasma Ach levels in all parts of the vascular system. The Ach concentrations in rats treated with cyanamide (an aldehydedehydrogenase inhibitor) were much higher than that in only treated with alcohol, but the arterio-venous difference almost disappeared. The results suggest the existence of pronounced extrahepatic acetaldehyde metabolism and that these process is mediated througth aldehyde dehydrogenases. In addition higher levels of Ach in red blood cells indicate the role of erythrocytes in the Ach transport.

Influence of hemoglobin oxygen activity modified by sodium cyanate on the lipid peroxidation process and antioxidant defense factors in red cells in vitro. pp. 70--74
Summary: The hemoglobin-oxygen affinity (HOA) was increased by sodium cyanate in the experiments in vitro, and the index of the blood oxygen transport (p50), contents of conjugated dienes, thiobarbituric acid-reactive substances and Schiff bases, catalase activity and a-tocopherol concentration in red blood cells were investigated. The regression analysis of these parameters indicated that the increase of HOA promote the shift of oxyhemoglobin dissociation curve leftwards, the lowering in the main lipid peroxidation products, and the rise in antioxidant defense factors. The involvement of hemoglobin oxygen-binding properties in the mechanisms of antioxidant protection is discussed.

Changes in pain sensibility and serotonin metabolism in the brain and small intestine of rats during experimental fever. pp. 75--80
Summary: In experiments on conscious male rats was shown that injection of lipopolysaccharide (LPS) to the jugular vein in a dose 10 mg/kg induced a decrease in the latency of the tail-flick response, accompanied by serotonin catabolism increase at the parietal cortex, striatum, nucleus tractus solitarii, nucleus raphe magnus, and thoracic spinal cord (30--60 min after theinjection). A reduction of the pain sensitivity observed 150--210 min after the LPS injection was accompanied by accumulation of serotonin in the lumbosacral cord cerebellum and serotonin catabolism increase in the duodenum.

Enhanced acute phase proteins production attenuates body temperature response of rats to lipopolisaccharide. pp. 81--83
Summary: The influence of increased level of acute phase proteins biosynthesis on the body temperature response of rats to bacterial lipopolysaccharide was studied. It was found that subcutaneous injection of 5㨾-6 M/kg epinephrine is followed by decrease in body temperature at 6--16 hours postinjection, and increase in a2-macroglobulin blood activity as measured 24 h after injection. Rats, pretreated with epinephrine demonstrated much weaker elevation in body temperature in response to lipopolysaccharide (applicated intaperitoneally 24 h latter) then control rats pretreated with saline.

Correlation between peroxidation process in placental tissue and blood of pregnant women living at the territories with low level of radionuclide contamination. pp. 90--93
Summary: Activation of lipid peroxydation and decreasing of antioxidant power were established in blood of pregnant women living in regions with radionuclide contamination. There were tendency of increasing of lipid peroxidation and breach of vitamin C methabolism. Disbalance of oxidant and antioxidant processes in blood of pregnant women is early marker of this disbalance in fetoplacental system. Support of antioxidant status of pregnant women is necessary for prophylactic of peroxidation syndrome and complications of gestation.

Osteological estimation of geographical and chronological variability of deer (Cervus elaphus Linnaeus, 1758) from medieval Belarus. pp. 105--111
Summary: On the grounds of analysis of 1314 osseous deer remains from 11 Belarussian medieval cities and towns (Grodno, Losk, Novogrudok, Vitebsk High and Low town. Zaslavl, Minsk, Kletsk, Slutsk, Krichev, Turov) we indicated, they belong to 423 adult individuals. Among all remains of wild animals deer takes 21.8%. The most number of deer's remains were found in Grodno, Minsk, Zaslavl and Turov (22.3-30.5%). We marked the highest level of deer prey in the North and Middle Belarus in XII--XIV cen. and in Belarus and Polesje in XV--XVII cen. The results of osteometrical analysis (1246 measures on 592 bones)do not show any chronological and geografical differences among deer bone's dimensions on the territory of Belarus in X--XVII cen. All the data are confirming the existing literature information about morphological heterogeneity of subfossil deer on the territory of East Europe. We found, that on the territory of Belarus, Latvia and Lithuania in X--XVII cen. the deers were bigger than present but smaller than subfossil deers from Ucrainian forest-steppe.

Summary: Numerous data concerned GABA metabolism in brain tissue during ethanol intoxication with the different extent of severity and during alcohol withdrawal have analysed. A close relation between minor GABA-shunt and brain carbohydrate and energy metabolisms has been noted, and GABA-shunt was hypothesised to be an additional deliverer of Krebs cycle's substrates and corrector of some ethanol-induced metabolic disturbances. The probable mechanisms of the action of ethanol on the GABA-metabolising enzymes activities may be related to the alcohol-induced membrane damages and the alterations in the oxidative/reductive equilibrium of NAD+ and NADH and others.
