The collection includes abstracts of reports submitted to the international symposium organized under the financial auspices of IUPAB. The Scientific Council on Biophysics of Russian Academy of Sciences, National Academy of Sciences of Belarus and Belarus Society for Photobiology and Biophysics are the organizers of this Symposium. The main objective of the symposium is to present comprehensive and up-to-date reviews of recent achievements in the field by the speakers from all over the world and to promote scientific discussion and comparison of current research findings, hypotheses and methodologies. Topics to be considered: general questions of intracellular signaling, second mediators of intracellular signaling, receptors and hormones, molecular bases of signaling systems, biophysical and biochemical mechanisms of processing of extra- and intracellular signals. The special attention is concentrated on G-proteins, signaling functions of calcium, downstream effects of ligand binding, protein kinase cascades, phosphorylation and dephosphorylation of proteins and lipids, cell adhesion molecules and signaling, cellular signaling with reactive oxygen species and nitric oxide, glycobiology of signal transduction.

The Symposium was sponsored by the Belarusian Republican Foundation for Fundamental Research.
