The aim of the Conference CM NDT-98 was to provide a forum for the detailed discussion of fundamental computer, mathematical, and physical aspects of quantitative non-destructive evaluation (NDE) and condition diagnosis. The following topics are considered at the Conference:

• simulation of physical processes for NDE,
• simulation of NDE technology,
• simulation of NDE in manufacturing process and in service,
• basic concepts of reconstruction and restoration in NDE,
• inverse methods for flaw detection and characterization,
• image and signal processing,
• computerized diagnostics.

The following quantitative methods, which can be applied for different non-destructive testing (NDT) techniques, were considered in the presentations:

• classical regular and stochastic simulation methods,
• artificial intelligence, neuronal network, fuzzy logic, genetic algorithms,
• optimization and regularization procedures,
• algebraic and convolution methods for reconstruction and restoration,
• statistical methods for image and pattern analysis,
• numerical methods.

The Conference was intended to touch this broad scope arising while developing and applying computer techniques in non-destructive evaluation and diagnosis.

Supported be the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus. Sponsored by the Russian Society of NDTand Diagnostics, French Society of NDT, British Institute of Non-Destructive Testing, Belvnesheconombank, AGFA
