The book prepared in the Institute of Geological Sciences of NASB, the Institute for Problems of Natural Resources Use and Ecology of NASB, and the Belarusian State University, is the first summary of complex paleogeographical, paleogeochemical and paleoecological research of factors and ways of development of various reservoirs of sediment genesis on example of modem lakes of Belarus. The geochemical and biological stratification of lakes' sediments is considered for the post-glacial period. Thin layer dissection of sediments is made with singling out millennial, century, within century and seasonal climate intervals on the basis of a detailed microstratigraphic analysis. Causal-consequential relations of ecological and geochemical variability of processes are analysed. Evolution stages are singled out as well as their climate sedimentational and biological indices. A connection is established between rhythms of the abiotical and biotical nature. A particular attention is paid to sediment genesis and evolution of the environment during the subatlantic period in the situation of various antropogenic influence on lakes and watersheds. The methods used for collecting, processing and interpreting the geochemical, biological and other data can be treated as a basis for a new direction in scientific research: geochemical ecology or ecological geochemistry of lakes. The book is of interest for geochemists, paleo-georaphers, paleo-limnologists, paleo-ecologists, specialists of scientific research, educational and production organizations.
