In the monograph prepared in the Institute of Physiology of NAS of Belarus, the modern conceptions are generalized on central and peripheral mechanisms of functioning of the systems ensuring formation of protective reflexes at action on organism of the damaging factors. The basic attention is given to the analysis of physiological and pathophysiological mechanisms of perception, transfer, coding, integration and acceptance of the decision at action of nociceptive stimulus on organism. The various forms of protective nociceptive reactions are described in detail, their anatomical-physiological basis is detailed. Author's original point of view on the dual role of nociception in homeostasis maintenance is presented. The book is intended for physiologists and clinicists, and also students of biological and medical faculties of high schools.
