The National Academy of Sciences of Belarus coordinates a main part of the fundamental scientific research works carried out in the framework of the "Annual Plan of the Most Important Research Works in Natural, Engineering and Humanitarian Sciences in the Republic of Belarus". Nowadays it consists of 38 State Programs of Fundamental Research in the field of natural, engineering and humanitarian sciences on 1996--2000, which are listed below. The list of programs was approved by the decision of the Ministers of the Republic of Belarus in April, 1995. The content of each program was approved by the resolution of the Presidium of the NAS of Belarus. In 1998 the Academy's institutes have been provided the investigations on 698 projects (about 65%) of the Annual Plan.
